ORA
Optiwave Refractive Analyzer (ORA) gives surgeons the ability to measure, adjust, and affirm intraocular lens (IOL) power and alignment.
These on-demand measurements of the most critical aspects of the surgery have the potential to enhance visual outcomes.
This technology is often helpful in every patient, but can be especially useful in patients who have previously been more challenging when calculating the power of the IOL that is implanted at the time of cataract surgery. This may occur in patients who have had previous refractive surgery such as LASIK, PRK, or RK, extreme near or far-sightedness, or higher amounts of astigmatism.
How does ORA work?
ORA is attached to the surgical microscope and utilizes intraoperative wavefront aberrometry to measure the refractive power of the eye once the cataract is removed. This on-demand power calculation is then used to ensure proper implant power, IOL placement, and/or determination of the magnitude and direction of astigmatism.
When ORA is used, it performs 40 instantaneous calculations to measure the refractive power of the eye. This allows us to confirm or refine your IOL selection with real-time data.

Dr. Christopher Weaver Christopher D. Weaver, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.O., is a general ophthalmologist specializing in surgical and medical treatment of diseases of the eye, including the following: cataracts and cataract surgery, medical, surgical, and laser treatments for glaucoma, surgical treatment for eyelid lesions, diabetic eye exams, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Weaver completed his ophthalmology residency as chief resident in ophthalmology at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was awarded the prestigious Kenneth Tuck Award in 2015. Dr. Weaver is a graduate of SUNY Upstate Medical University, College of Medicine, where he received numerous academic honors and awards, including graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2012, induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and Gold Humanism Society in 2011, and receiving the Excellence in Clinical Skills Award in 2010.
